Single Tooth Implants at MN Dental Surgery
An implant that restores a single tooth is an excellent replacement choice, as the restoration will look, feel, and function just like a natural tooth. Additionally, through exciting surgical advances, we can often deliver an implant at the same time a tooth is removed — this is known as immediate placement and can be applicable to any tooth in the mouth. However sometimes missing tooth sites do not have enough bony support for an implant, which may require the addition of grafting prior to, or during implant placement.
Mini-Implants
In growing individuals full-sized implants are typically not recommended as their position will shift relative to the other teeth. However, at Minnesota Dental Surgery we offer mini-implant solutions to temporarily restore teeth until a child is fully grown. This is an excellent treatment option for congenitally missing premolars and lateral incisors during the teenage years.
What is the Flow of Single Dental Implant Treatment?
1. At your dental surgery consultation we will determine how best to place the implant. Your doctors may take x-rays and impressions to examine the options.
2. Implant Placement. Precise channels are created in the jawbone to receive the dental implant. After this appointment we typically wait 3-6 months before the next step.
3. Post-Procedure Checkup. There is a recovery period following implant placement. As a courtesy, we want to follow-up with you to ensure that everything is healing properly.
4. Return to Your Referring Dentist for Restoration. Impressions for the final restoration and subsequent delivery of that restoration will occur with your restorative dentist.
